Ghana forward, Antoine Semenyo has expressed how deeply honoured he feels to represent Ghana on the international stage.
In a heartfelt interview with Football Focus, Semenyo shared that receiving his first call-up to the Black Stars was a profoundly emotional experience, not just for him but for his family.
“My mum was crying on the phone. Dad doesn’t really jump up too much, but he was so excited,” Semenyo recounted and added, “It’s an honour to play for Ghana. It’s just a dream come true.”
Though born in England, Semenyo’s Ghanaian heritage has always been central to his identity, and he relishes the opportunity to visit home and reconnect with his roots whenever he’s with the Black Stars.
“I love going back to our home country and seeing family, seeing friends as well. They’re so eager about football,” he said, describing the energy and passion surrounding the sport in Ghana.
Since his debut for the Black Stars on June 1, 2022, Semenyo has made over 20 appearances, becoming an integral part of the squad.
His journey reflects both personal pride and a commitment to honouring his heritage on the international stage.
Antoine Semenyo is expected to be part of the Ghana squad that will be invited by head coach Otto Addo for the games against Angola and Niger in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament this month.
He currently has four goals after ten EPL games.
