...Sets sight on representing the country at the Olympics

A week of world class sportsmanship at the 2025 World Boxing Cup witnessed the rise of an amazon who gave her all for country and continent. In a pool of over 400 boxers from 31 countries, 6 continents, we find Nigeria and Africa's sole representative battling it out for the first african medal in the inaugural edition of the Boxing World Cup.
The Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Martial Art Palace, was the perfect corridor for Nigeria's Patricia Mbata to find her rhythm and display her prowess as she gave pound for pound to win the historic bronze medal.
The Astana event was the third stage of the World Cup after Brazil and Czechia. And the British born Nigerian pugilist who won Gold in the 75kg category at the last Africa Games in Accra, Ghana, says getting bronze at the championships motivates her to keep pursuing her dreams of reaching the pinnacle of her boxing career.
Patricia Mbata who fought in the 70kg category tidied an impressive 5-0 win over Poland's Alexandra Cyrek in the quarter finals to make it to the semi-finals and ensure she got the bronze medal at the mondial.
The boxer who is also a project construction manager by profession in the UK, also mentioned her big dream of representing the giants of Africa –Nigeria, at the Olympic Games.
The event which as in full swing from the 28th of June to the 7th of July, 2025, also featured several Olympians and previous World Boxing Cup champions and the strong and selfless amazon who has over the years footed her entire sponsorship costs while representing Nigeria at major international boxing championships, is confident that her dream will soon become her reality.

The World Boxing Cup Finals 2025 will be the culmination of the World Boxing Cup series this year and following the events in Brazil, Czechia and Kazakhstan. a final event where the stage winners and other top-ranked boxers compete for the World Boxing Cup trophy. The competition will take place at the same time as the World Boxing Congress 2025 which will host stakeholders, officials, and dignitaries from the global boxing community.
Next up is the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, scheduled from 4-14 September 2025. With over 500 competitors it will be the biggest Olympic-style boxing event to be held in the UK since London 2012.
