Ekiti State basked in celebration on Monday as Governor Biodun Oyebanji clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC), governorship ticket for the 2026 election — a victory widely seen as a reward for his over three years of steady, people-centered governance.
Amid cheers at the Ekitikete Pavilion, Ado Ekiti, 885 delegates from all 177 wards across the state unanimously affirmed Oyebanji’s candidacy, sealing what many described as a “referendum of progress.”
“The endorsement wasn’t just political — it was a validation of performance. From massive road rehabilitation projects that have opened up rural communities, to landmark investments in youth empowerment, digital innovation, and sports infrastructure, his administration has redefined what grassroots governance means in Ekiti,” that's the submission of Dr. Olusola Osetoba.
Dr. Olusola Osetoba, the Governor’s Technical Adviser on Sports, hailed the development as “a well-deserved victory for a leader who has turned promises into visible progress.” She added, “Governor Oyebanji’s win shows the people see and appreciate his commitment to development, stability, and good governance.”
The affirmation was moved by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and seconded by Speaker Adeoye Aribasoye, in what became a symbolic moment of unity for the APC in Ekiti.
In a gracious gesture, Oyebanji’s only cleared challenger, Mrs. Atinuke Omolayo, stepped down to endorse him — citing his “sterling performance, loyalty to the party, and commitment to Ekiti’s progress.” Her action underscored the growing consensus that Oyebanji has earned not just the trust of his party, but the confidence of the people.
In his acceptance speech, Oyebanji pledged to consolidate his administration’s gains, declaring, “We will continue to deliver on our contract with Ekiti State. The next phase is about deepening the transformation we have begun — in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and youth development.”
The Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, who chaired the APC Affirmation Congress Committee, commended the peaceful exercise, calling it “a model of political maturity.”
“Governor Oyebanji’s inclusive leadership has strengthened the APC ahead of next year’s polls,” Ododo said. “The days of internal rancor are gone; what we have now is a united front powered by performance.”
The event drew the presence of political heavyweights, including former Governors Niyi Adebayo and Kayode Fayemi, alongside several state and national figures — all signaling the party’s collective confidence in Oyebanji’s stewardship.
“As Ekiti heads toward the 2026 polls, one message rings loud and clear: Biodun Oyebanji’s first three years have not just won him a ticket — they’ve won him the trust of the people,” Dr. Olusola Osetoba stressed.
The Governorship election in Ekiti is scheduled to hold on 20th of June 2026.
