SWAN bestows highly esteemed Distinguished Service Award on Edo Sports director, Mrs. Sabina Chikere

In the dense-woods of sports and sports development in Nigeria, one name stands out, one name hangs high, one name leads the chart, from the Heartbeat of the Nation with every breath she breathes, she takes Nigerian sports to a new dimension, her name is Mrs. Sabina Chikere, the Director of Sport Development and Operations, Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC).

Mrs. Sabina Chikere, one of the brains behind the recent sports development in Edo State was recognised by Africa's flagship sports body, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN) under the leadership of President Isaiah Benjamin, for her commitment towards sports in Nigeria.

The revered award was presented to Mrs Sabina Chikere by the Chairman of the Edo State chapter of SWAN, Kehinde Osagie on Thursday, stating that her resolute support towards sports in the state and the country is worthy of recognition.

Mrs. Sabina Chikere was elated by the award, describing the award as a moment of pride for her.

‎“A moment of pride for me, for being recognised by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for my role in sports development, at their 60th Anniversary,” she said on her social media handle.

She dedicated the prestigious and highly sought after award to her family and the Director General of the National Institute of Sports, Comrade Philip Shaibu.
“This award is dedicated to my loving family and the DG/CEO of NIS, His Excellency Comrade Philip Shaibu, who saw in me the ability to achieve great exploits in sports and gave me the platform to contribute immensely to the revival of sports in Edo state, giving the heart its beats once again,” she stressed.
‎“Together, we stand for growth, excellence, and the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” she added.
