The Executive Director of the Banjul Marathon, Amie Jallow, has described the World Athletics Africa Running Conference at the roadmap and blueprint for the success of athletics on the continent.

Amie Jallow, who was a key member of the The Gambia delegation to the Conference, expressed deep satisfaction in the outcome of the 2-day event, stating that it came at just the right time for African athletics.

Mrs. Jallow, an award-winning sports administrator, gave her verdict during an exclusive interview with FIRST ZEALMEDIACAST BLOG's Oluwatobiloba Zeal-Adepetu Kumoye.

“The first thing I will say is the most important is the networking and what this conference does bring all stakeholders and road race organisers and it's been the most beneficial we know we are a family we know how we can depend on each other and how we can collaborate to develop the sport more,” she said.

She further stated that for her and for road race organizers like her in the Gambia the Conference has helped refresh and reshape their minds on marathons and road races can be organized and branded.

“It has torch a few important parts of organising the race there been how to sell your race how to get exposure how to raise funding for your event and as well as growing the sport from the grass root so it's been really an eye opener here,” she explained.

One area of the conference which found a special place in the heart of the dazzling and ever smiling lady was the point on women involvement.

“Well empowering women is like empowering our kind because for us the directors of the Banjul marathon is totally led by women like four women position holders in the organisation and most of our employees the people that we work with are women.

“What I've learnt here is that they've started a category for only women roadracing and we've met with Tayo Popoola the Taekwondo president here she been doing that in Nigeria organising race just for women were they go just to have a good time collaborate network just connect and like she said party it's a great idea and this is something that we will definitely take back to Gambia and see how we can on that train ourselves and organise a women only marathon,” she stressed.

Mrs. Amie Jallow also had some nice words laced appreciation for the hospitality shown to her and the entire The Gambia delegation.

“This is not my first time in Nigeria although its my first in Lagos I can't complain it's been an experience the people of Lagos are nice and friendly and welcoming we are really having a great time.

“Well the thing is this is Africa see Nigeria for us is like a parent so we come here and then they lift us up when you lift somebody up it benefits you it doesn't matter how you do it but it just benefits you so it kind of lifting everybody up at the same time and we are been lifted up at the same time and we we too depend what ever we are getting from Nigeria we get at least it's a mutual beneficial arrangement we are most happy that we came,” she concluded.
